q. What is autoship?
a. This is your monthly re-occurring billing date – remember it really is a 90 day challenge and the biggest rewards come to those who see it through. You can cancel your autoship at any time by email email@example.com – please do not contact advancedfitness.org because we are not responsible for any billing or shipping.
q. Can I change or alter my Body by Vi autoship?
a. Yes. We have written a comprehensive guide to changing your autoship here.
q. Can I purchase challenge kits without having to opt for autoship?
a. Yes. However they are slightly more expensive as incentives are provided for those who opt for an autoship. The costs are as follows: Balance Kit £49.00; Shape Kit £99; Boost Kit £149.00; Transformation Kit £249.00. All orders are subject to Postage and Packaging and they are only available by completing a Body by Vi Order Form which can be returned by post or email. For details on how to order click here
q. How many calories are in each shake?
a. 233 when consumed with 250 ml of semi skimmed milk.
q. I want to lose weight, which challenge kit is best for me?
a. Either the Shape, Boost or Transformation Kit will be required if weight loss is your aim. The balance kit is for individuals who have achieved their target weight and therefore want weight maintenance. The balance kit is also for individuals who are undertaking a weight or resistance training programme and require protein for muscle and tissue repair.
q. I am pregnant, can I take the shakes
Yes, but we only recommend 1 shake per day, preferably for breakfast. You should not be using the product to lose weight during pregnancy.
q. Do the products contain Aspartame?
No, none of the products contain Aspartame.
q. Why do our products contain Sucralose?
We use sucralose for taste, and also to keep our products diabetic friendly.
It is unfortunate that there is so much confusion and misinformation about sweeteners. Sweeteners have received bad press, primarily because of aspartame, which degrades when heated (it is safe when cold) and tastes bad. Sucralose has been found safe both in hot and cold applications, and has had over 110 peer reviewed studies completed. This is why Sucralose has been approved by over 85 countries globally. We like to say that many people feel the FDA approved drugs too easily (i.e. Vioxx, Phen Phen), so that if you trust other countries more (several globally are more stringent), then looking abroad is a good benchmark as well. We use a very small 0.03 grams per serving, which is about 1/3 of the amount in a diet cola.
We know that several people would prefer we use Stevia or Xylitol because they are natural. Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol. Unfortunately it causes diarrhea in approximately 20% of the population! To get the same amount of sweetness in Neuro, we would need about 1 tablespoon, which can be toxic or fatal to a 40 pound dog. It also has not been approved globally.
Stevia is a sweetener derived from a plant. It has only recently been approved in the U.S., and is still in process of being reviewed globally. There have been some concerns on liver toxicity, and so there may be more studies needed. The manufacturers of Stevia have recently published some safety data, and many countries are now re-looking it as a sweetener. It does impart a licorice type flavor that some people do not like. We have been trying to work with stevia in some new formulations, but are struggling to make them taste good.
I’ve been asked a lot about agave recently. Agave is nothing more than high fructose syrup…about 90% fructose, which can contribute to increased appetite.
We do strive to make our formulas as natural as possible, while balancing taste, texture, safety, efficacy and stability. We are looking at some promising natural sweeteners coming on the market and our hope is that we will be able to replace sucralose to alleviate those concerns. In the meantime, we have not found a suitable substitute that tastes as good, has as much research, and has global approval.
q. Are the products organic?
No. none of the products claim to be organic, however, some of the ingredients we use are organic.
q. Are the products Natural?
We are natural based, but do have an artificial sweetener in three of our products. We try to make our products as natural as possible, while combining the best of science and nature. For example, in the Omega Vitals, the overwhelming majority of the ingredients are from natural sources, including botanicals.
q. Can children take Vi-Shape.
Children 4 and under should not consume Vi-Shake, this is because they process protein differently and would result in too much protein for the body. Children aged 4-12 can use one scoop of Vi-shape daily providing it has been approved by their GP for weight loss. Children over 12 can have two scoops of Vi-Shape per day, again providing it has been approved by their GP for weight loss.
q. I am told I should drink more water, but exactly how much do I need?
Please see the article on our blog regarding the best times to drink water to aid weight loss.
q. Is Vi-Shape diabetic friendly?
a. Yes. When consumed with water they contain just 1g of sugar. When consumed with semi skimmed milk each shake contains 13g of sugar. To put this into perspective, it’s about the same as a medium sized apple or 100g of grapes, but less than a banana (20g). You must of course be mindful of the glycemic index of the other foods you are consuming throughout the day and keep simple sugars to a minimum.
q. Do any of the products contain Gluten?
None of the products currently available in the UK contain Gluten. In the US they have an Orange flavour mix-in which contains Gluten, but this is not available in the UK.
q. I have a milk allergy. Does any of the products contain milk?
We use a special whey protein source in our Vi-Shape nutritional shake mix, and in the Nutra-Cookies. The most common allergies to milk are lactose intolerance, or casein protein. The shake and cookies are lactose free, and we do not use casein protein. However, whey protein is derived from cow’s milk, so it will depend on the type of allergy that someone has. Most people can use our shake.
q. Do i have to purchase a challenge kit, or can I just purchase the shake.
a. It is not compulsory to purchase a challenge kit. Individual Vi-shape pouches and boxes of nutra-cookies can be purchased, but please be mindful that these are not available on autoship so make sure you reorder before stocks deplete.
q. I’ve been taking the shake now for 2 weeks and I have not lost any weight, am I doing something wrong?
a. The body is complex and also very clever, as such there is often a metabolic slowdown when you have a marked caloric deficit. Make sure if you are female you are consuming in the region of 1200 kcals per day, and men 1500 kcals per day. You must be patient and stick with the plan, you will eventually lose weight. If you are a customer of advancedfitness.org and perhaps finding the lack of results demoralising, please contact me using the email address below for individual advice and support.
q. How frequently should I weigh myself?
a. Every 2 weeks is recommended. Weighing yourself frequently can result in a loss of motivation; losing weight does not happen overnight. Please see our specific advice on how to weigh yourself.
q. Can the shakes be made with other liquids other than semi skimmed milk?
a. Yes. You can use water, soy milk and almond milk. Be mindful that if you use water the total kcal for each is reduced from 233 to 115. You must ensure that you are meeting the minimum calorie intake (as per above)
q. What should I eat for my substantial meal?
a. If you are consuming two shakes per day, a substantial meal for a women needs to be in the region of 700-800 kcals and for men 1000 kcals. Food should include Pasta, Grilled White Meat, Fish, Brown Rice, Brown Bread, Fresh Vegetables, Stir Fry, Tuna in Brine, Lean Mince etc. A really good website for healthy food can be found on the BBC. The BBC healthy site includes Gluten FREE recipes, low cholesterol foods, vegetarian and dairy FREE foodstuffs.
q. What is Tri-Sorb Blend?
We use a proprietary Tri-Sorb protein blend, and that’s what makes our shake and cookies special. The three proteins we use are:
- Whey Protein Concentrate
- Whey Protein Hydrolysate (the newest and most concentrated/absorbable protein on the market today)
- Soy Protein Isolate (specially processed to remove isoflavones)
q. Is Soy bad for you?
Typically when people ask if the soy is fermented, it is because they have been told non-fermented soy is ‘unsafe’.
There is a lot of misinformation and confusion about soy in the marketplace today. In countries where consumption of soy is high (like Japan) the populations are healthier and have fewer health issues than in the UK today. So we know that there is misinformation, and facts being taken out of context.
Of the concerns over soy, there are a few common ones. First, is referring to raw soybeans, that can contain a form of phytic acid that can block certain minerals absorption. However, that is based on massive consumption quantities, and of the raw soybean and only occurs in those animals that lack the digestive enzyme phytase. It is only an issue for people who consume those foods to get minerals in their diet, and in massive quantities. The issue is in developing countries, and may have a genetic basis as well because they are lacking the digestive enzyme (which can be supplemented and therefore alleviate the concern). It is not an issue for our products because of how we process the ingredients.
The second common concern with soy are due to some of the components of soy, particularly the isoflavones genistein and dadzein which can affect and inhibit thyroid peroxidase which is necessary for the production of T3 and T4. Thus there is some evidence that it could lead to thyroid enlargement (Goiter). Our soy has been processed to remove the isoflavones, so this is not an issue.
A third common concern about soy is the effect it may have on estrogen levels in the body. This is again due to the isoflavones, which we have had removed. So this is a non-worry. We should note that many menopausal women do supplement with isoflavones, as it has been shown to help them experience fewer side effects of menopause.
Lastly, our Soy is not genetically modified (it is non-GMO). Many people worry about genetically modified soy, and if any of the ingredients got altered in the breeding process. We use the most natural form we can get, that has not been genetically modified.
Why use soy? It is a complete protein, easily digested, helps build lean muscle equal to (if not slightly better than) whey, and adequate consumption of soy in the diet can help the body lower c-reactive protein (an indicator of inflammation and heart disease) and cholesterol.
