It is best to weigh yourself at maximum once per week, on the same day and first thing in the morning, preferably with no clothes on – this is known as your true body weight. Your body weight during the course of day may increase as much as 5lbs, this is caused by the ingestion of food and water. You only need to weigh yourself in the morning, then again at night to see the results yourself.
Do not weight yourself everyday. This will do nothing but lead to disappointment and will certainly demotivate you. Weigh yourself no more than 1 per week, ideally every two weeks is best.
The bottom line regarding weight loss, is to burn more calories than you consume. 1lb of fat is equivalent to 2500 kcals. This means over the course of a week, in order to lose 2 lbs, you would need to burn 1000 kcals each day more than consumed. This is why a healthy weight loss is no more than 2lbs per week. If you are losing more than this, chances are it is water.
The body is very complex and studies show that there is often a metabolic slowdown when you have a marked caloric deficit. Unfortunately, this is why some weeks individuals do not lose any weight, despite obviously consuming less calories than burnt. It’s purely because the body slowed its metabolism down to account for the fewer calories being consumed.
My advice is very simple. Stick with it. Results with come with a little perseverance and patience. Weight loss does not happen overnight, so don’t expect quick and fast results no matter what diet you are on.
